4-5 Year Old Fun!

Join us for a Saturday morning of singing, dancing, and imagination! From start to finish, students will be actively engaged in music and dance classes. They will learn to sing a song, learn some fun choreography to go with the song, and have fun with arts and crafts as they create a piece to be used in their showcase performance.

Classes and crafts will take place from 9:00-10:45am.

BOX OFFICE is open from Noon to 5:00 PM Tuesday – Friday, Noon through intermission on show Fridays, and two hours before curtain through intermission on show weekends. On weekdays, access to the building is through the Main Street entrance only.

Class Registrations

WCT staff will be available to answer your questions and requests during the hours listed above. In-person registrations can be purchased using cash, credit card, or by check. Phone and online registrations must be purchased using a credit card. Mail order sales must be purchased using a credit card or by check. Credit cards accepted are Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.

Acting Adventures

Each class is a new adventure! Through fun games and creative exercises, students will embark on a fun-filled romp through the world of their own imaginations. From police officers to pirates to panda bears, each week will bring new characters and new surprises. A great introduction to the world of theatre, so join in the fun!

Acting Up

Learn the skills needed to be an effective actor. Voice, movement and character work will help to build focus and confidence as you perform a short scene in the final class. And by the way, it’s a lot of fun too!

Imcredible Improv

Learn the hilarious art of improvisation and what it can do for you. Experience levels do not matter! If you are looking to develop some new skills, sharpen the ones you already have, or just get out of a rut and meet some fun, new people, this class can help you. Through fun and interactive games, you will develop listening and communication skills, the ability to think more quickly on your feet, and a lot of self-confidence. Join the fun now!

Lights! Camera! Action!

Firsthand filmmaking fun! Memorize and perform original scripts in one hilarious and intense week. Be a part of this outrageous WCT tradition! Students will receive a dvd copy of the work the day of the screening for family and friends.

Audition Technique

This is a great tool for the serious young actor. Everything from the basics of audition etiquette to monologue selection to the different types of auditions you may encounter. Students will memorize and perform a short monologue for the final class.

Behind the Scenes

How do they do it? How does everything come together on stage for a show? Get the answers here as students learn all of the elements that go into producing a show. From lighting to sound to make-up to set design, discover how many offstage efforts go into making the magic happen onstage.

Brush Up Your Shakespeare

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Using text from Shakespeare, students will learn to use rhythm and word to create a memorable, driven character. Though the class will cover much of Shakespeare’s work, the primary focus will be on Twelfth Night. Students will perform a short scene on the final day of class.

Create-a-Play

Through fun games and imagination exercises, students will work to create their very own original characters. But that’s only half the fun! These characters will then be written into an original, world premiere play that the students will perform on the last day of class! The only requirement is an active imagination!

Dance Fever

Put on your dancing shoes for these two weeks to express and challenge yourself through the art of dance. Routines will challenge participants while placing an emphasis on storytelling elements.

Incredible Improv

Try acting without a script!!! Improvisation is an outstanding way to develop better communication, listening and performing skills. Through highly interactive games and exercises, students will learn to think more quickly on their feet and make stronger, clearer choices on stage. They will also be laughing a lot because this class is loads of fun!

Make A Play

The students are in charge! This class will give students a taste of the entire show development process as they write the script, create the characters and storyline, and eventually stage and perform their final work. An outstanding opportunity to collaborate with other creative people.

Musical Madness

Gotta sing? Then join us for this fun-filled class! Students will acquire valuable voice and movement skills as they learn the tunes of Broadway. The final class will be a small, informal performance for friends and family.

Play Writers

Unlock the writer within! Learn the power of the playwright and develop your own writing style as you are introduced to the basic principles of script writing. Emphasis will be placed on core writing principles like character, environment and plot development.

Puppets! Puppets! Puppets!

This fun-filled class will take you into the incredible world of puppets as you design and build your own. This is a unique opportunity to learn the skill of theatrical puppetry. Students will keep their puppets at the end of the class.

Stage Combat

How did they make that look so real?!? Learn and practice effective stage combat techniques that are used throughout the theatre world. With an emphasis on safety and storytelling, students will learn the thrilling discipline of stage combat.

Stand Up Comedy

Learn how to create and perform your own stand up routine from local professional comedian Lee LA Lycan.

Sketch Comedy Writing

Unlock the writer within! This class will not only develop the students’ writing skills, it will encourage them to look at comedy from a different perspective. Throughout the course, each student will write and develop their own sketch.

Fantastic Fencing!

I challenge you to a duel! Fencing is an art as well as a unique sport that requires use of both the body and mind. Come challenge yourself as you are introduced to the art of swashbuckling! The final class will be a duel for family and friends to observe. Tuition includes rental of a foil, mask, jacket and glove.

Marcella Kearns

Marcella (Marcy) Kearns is a Milwaukee-based actor and teaching artist. She has served as an instructor for First Stage, Milwaukee Rep, and Metropolis and on the education staff of Milwaukee Shakespeare and Studio Arena. An advocate of arts in education, she freelances as a partner with What You Will (www.wearewhatyouwill.com). She holds an MFA in Acting from the University of South Carolina and completed a Fulbright Fellowship in Vienna, Austria.

Doug Jarecki

Doug Jarecki is the Education and Outreach Administrator for Waukesha Civic Theatre. Apart from his duties at WCT, Doug enjoys an acting career both onstage and onscreen. He has performed in theatre companies throughout the area, including Next Act, In Tandem, Renaissance Theatreworks, First Stage, and Milwaukee Shakespeare Company. He also has an extensive children’s theatre background, working with such companies as M&W Playhouse, First Stage, Discovery World and the Milwaukee Children’s Theater Company. He also co founded Kidsplay, a touring children’s theatre company that performs highly interactive and original shows.
